Summary: Rosi’s work has stopped

A humorous video made to promote the cart went viral, but due to trolling and problems, Rossi had to close down his business. Rosie Neha Singh, who went viral as Bihar’s ‘Russian Girl’, says today – I don’t want views, I just want to live without fear and noise.

Bihar Russian Girl: People often consider going viral on social media as a stepping stone to success, but for Rosi Neha Singh, this experience was no less than a nightmare. For someone who was briefly called the “Russian Girl of Bihar” on social media, going viral neither brought opportunities nor strengthened her identity. On the contrary, it complicated their lives and took away the comfort of everyday life.

Rosie is originally from Sonpur, Bihar and currently lives in Ranchi. She was a beautician by profession, but cooking was her hobby. To increase his income, he set up a small Litti-Chicken stall in Ranchi. To reach out to customers, he took the help of social media and started posting some short videos. Initially this method seemed to work and the flow of people to the shop started increasing.

But from here the story took a sudden turn. People started commenting repeatedly about Rosie’s appearance whether she was Russian or came from some other country. Troubled by these questions, Rosie made a light-hearted video, in which she laughingly said in Bihari dialect that she was “a completely Bihari girl, not a Russian.” This video was made with the intention of being a joke, but the same video quickly went viral.

Within a few days, Rossi’s identity changed. She was not just a hard-working female shopkeeper but also became a “tag” on social media. Initially, the increasing likes, shares and comments felt good. He felt that perhaps this would increase both work and recognition. In this hope, he started making more such videos.

But soon people’s attitude changed. According to Rossi, when she could not answer every question or stopped making similar videos, the trolling started. Personal things started being said in the comments, objectionable language started being used. Many vloggers also started reaching his cart. Some people came for collaboration, but there were many who just wanted content. Rosie says, “If I refused or could not give time, the same people would start trolling me.”

Rosie says that people started coming to the cart not as customers, but with the intention of harassing her. Some would be drunk, some would forcefully ask for photos or selfies. There would be a fight if refused. It became difficult to work in such an environment. The situation became so bad that despite being in a good area of Ranchi, Rosi had to close down her Litti-Chicken stall. She says that till date she does not even know properly how to earn on social media or what is monetization. “Neither do I understand this system, nor does my family,” she says. Today Rosie does not want any recognition or viral videos. In her words, “I lost my peace while chasing views. Now I don’t want anything, I just want to live and work in peace.”
