If you're wanting to fly to another destination, whether it's a domestic flight to a different area of your country or to a different part of the world entirely, you will have to go through a security check at the airport in order to get to your assigned gate.
This process is usually quick, and requires travellers to put their bags, liquids, electronics, and any metallic items through a security scanner, which makes sure you're not bringing any prohibited items with you on your flight. Meanwhile, you will also have to go through a separate scanner to make sure you don't have any prohibited items still on or in your body.
However, during busy travel times, the lines to these security checks can become long, sometimes taking hours to get through if you're unlucky, which can lead to you missing you're flight if you're not early enough.
To help, one woman named Maria Dinca has now urged all holidaymakers to make sure they avoid making one time-consuming mistake when going through security, as it could lead to further delays.
"PSA: airport security tray etiquette," she wrote at the start of her TikTok video, as she went on to share what she believed was the 'correct' way to handle the trays at the security check in airports.
In her video, Maria went on to share how to properly handle the trays of your things at the airport secturity, as she documented herself going through secutrity during her own travels from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, where the first step was to take your tray from the conveyor belt while your things are still on it.
She then moved on to the second step, which is to place the tray on one of the nearby counters, where you can take your time to get your stuff from the tray and repack your bag, if needed.
When you're done, you can move on to the third step, which is to bring your trey back to its designated area, so that it can easily move back to the front of the conveyor belt.
"Please don't leave them sad and lonely like this," Maria wrote, as she showed a line of several empty treys taking up space on the belt, preventing other treys to travel through the security machine.
She went on to add in the caption of the post: "Every time I travel I'm amazed how many people just leave them on the conveyor belt, which leads to more delays and more work for airport staff or other passengers to deal with."
While some viewers agreed with what Maria had to say, some went on to say that they had been told to simply ignore the treys.
"Every airport I've been to tells you to get all your stuff out of the tray without taking it anywhere then slide it to the stack at the end," one person said, explaining in a different comment that they were from the US, and that they didn't have tables to unpack their treys from.
To this, Maria replied: Oh that's interesting! My experience is based on Europe. I'm flying out of the US today though so will now keep an eye out for how it works here."
