Health Desk. Thyroid is a common but serious health problem, which affects the metabolism and many other functions of the body. Often people ignore the initial symptoms of thyroid, due to which the disease can take a serious form. According to experts, the body gives some signals in advance, by identifying which it is possible to start treatment on time. It affects women more.
1. Sudden weight gain or loss
If you suddenly start gaining or losing weight without any change in your diet or lifestyle, it could be an early sign of thyroid. In hypothyroidism, weight increases whereas in hyperthyroidism, weight can suddenly decrease.
2. Constant fatigue and weakness
Due to thyroid the body’s energy decreases. If you feel tired throughout the day despite getting enough sleep, or your body becomes weak even after small activities, then it should be taken seriously.
3. Hair fall and skin dryness
Imbalance in thyroid hormones causes hair fall and skin feels dry or rough. These signs can be seen in the initial stages only.
4. Mood swings and mental stress
Thyroid affects the neurological system of the brain. If irritability, depression or mental stress suddenly increases, this can also be a symptom of thyroid.
5.darkening or swelling of the skin near the neck
Darkening of the skin around the neck or slight swelling in the neck (goiter) can be a warning sign of thyroid disorder.
