Why We Crave Sugar In Winter: Winter season is going on. In this season, fluctuating cold temperatures persist. In this season the days become shorter and the temperature decreases. With this change, both the body and mind start reacting differently. Many people feel that they feel like eating sweets after eating during cold days. Everyone has the habit of eating sweets, for this it is important to pay attention to the scientific and mental reasons.
In cold weather, the body needs the most energy to keep itself warm. Which is available only from healthy food items. In this, sweet things and carbohydrates are considered to provide quick energy. This is why in winter the brain demands such foods which provide instant calories. Apart from this, during winter season there is less sunlight or people are exposed to less sunlight. Due to less sunlight, the level of “feel-good hormone” called serotonin in the body can decrease. This hormone helps in keeping the mood better.
When its levels are low, the brain tries to compensate by eating sweets and carbohydrates. Some research also suggests that the risk of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) i.e. seasonal sadness increases in winter. In such a situation, eating sweets becomes an easy way to provide emotional comfort.
You can control your habit of eating sweets which keeps your weight under control.
1- In winter, you should take sunlight only for a short time. For this, sitting in the sun for 15-20 minutes in the morning balances the body clock and mood. This can reduce the desire for unnecessary sweets.
2- It is very important to pay attention to a balanced diet in winter. Soup, porridge, khichdi, stew and boiled vegetables keep the stomach full for a long time. By consuming these things the stomach remains healthy and there is no craving for sweets.
3- In winter, light walk, yoga or stretching inside the house keeps blood sugar balanced and also reduces stress.
4- You should also keep mental stress under control in winter. Talking to friends, pursuing a favorite hobby, or listening to music can help reduce overeating.
