Nighttime temperatures across northern Vietnam are forecast to rise by about 4–5 degrees Celsius from mid-next week, bringing milder nights and warmer daytime conditions.

Over the past week, a powerful cold spell brought steep nighttime temperature drops, while sunny, dry conditions during the day caused day–night temperature differences of more than 10 degrees Celsius. These swings have heightened health concerns, especially the risk of respiratory problems among children.

The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting said the current cold and dry conditions will continue until Jan. 14. After that, weakening cold air is expected to bring increased cloud cover to the north. Overnight and early morning temperatures are likely to stay above 14 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures could reach 24–26 degrees Celsius.

Forecasts from AccuWeather show Hanoi experiencing a wide range early in the week, from around 13-26 degrees Celsius, before settling into a more stable 18–24 degrees by midweek. In high-altitude areas above 1,500 meters, such as Sa Pa, temperatures are expected to rise to between 8-17 degrees.

Central Vietnam remains under the influence of the cold front. Although rainfall will be limited, areas north of the Hai Van Pass are forecast to see nighttime temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs ranging from 23-25 degrees. South Central coastal provinces are expected to stay warmer, at around 26–29 degrees.

Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands also felt the recent cold spell, with Ho Chi Minh City’s Nha Be area recording lows of about 17 degrees Celsius. As the cold front weakens next week, temperatures in the south are forecast to edge higher, with overnight lows near 20 degrees and daytime highs of 30–32 degrees. The Central Highlands will see mostly sunny weather, with temperatures ranging from 14-27 degrees Celsius.
