IND vs NZ 1st ODI Stats Preview: India’s star batsman Virat Kohli will have a chance to create a unique world record in the first match of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday (January 11).
Fastest 28000 international runs
Kohli has scored 27975 runs in 623 innings of 556 matches played including all three formats. If he scores 25 runs, he will hold the world record of being the fastest to score 28,000 international runs in international cricket. Currently, this record is in the name of Sachin Tendulkar, who had played 644 innings for it, whereas Kohli has played 623 innings so far.
Close to surpassing Kumar Sangakkara
If Kohli scores 42 runs, he will surpass Kumar Sangakkara and reach second place in the list of players scoring the most runs in international cricket. Sangakkara has 28016 runs in his name in 666 innings of 594 matches. Sachin Tendulkar is on top with 34357 runs in 782 innings of 664 matches.
Most runs in India-New Zealand ODI series
Kohli’s record in ODIs against New Zealand has been excellent. He scored 1657 runs in 33 ODIs at an average of 55.23, in which he scored 6 centuries and 9 half-centuries. If he is successful in scoring 94 runs, he will leave behind Sachin Tendulkar (1750 runs) and come on top in terms of scoring the most runs in India-New Zealand ODI.
It is noteworthy that Kohli is in excellent form. After the ODI series against South Africa, he played brilliant innings for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
