Sanjay Singh, Patna: The game of getting enrollment done by making fake disability certificates is going on on a large scale in medical colleges across the country. A student from Sitamarhi was caught red-handed while enrolling in the Government Medical College of Purnia on the basis of fake disability certificate. Police are investigating this matter after the arrest.

Meanwhile, the college management also got other students enrolled on the basis of disability certificate in 2023-2024 examined. During investigation, certificates of seven other students were also found to be fake. Due to fear of being caught, fake students are absconding after leaving the hostel. This fraud has also happened in other medical colleges of the country.

The gang is organized at the country level

The business of fake disability certificates is being operated from Uttar Pradesh. This gang cheats people of Rs 5 to 10 lakh in the name of getting admission in medical college on fake disability certificate. On December 9, Kartik, a student of Sitamarhi, reached Purnia Medical College for enrolment.

His Aadhar card was made from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. When the medical college staff inquired about his Aadhar card, he got enraged. The matter reached the college principal. The principal also had doubts about his disability certificate. When it was investigated, the certificate was found to be fake. He was immediately handed over to the police. Police is taking legal action against him.

Fake certificate made from three medical colleges

When the Principal of Purnia Medical College became suspicious, he started checking the certificates of other students who had enrolled in medical on disability quota. During investigation, it was found that most of the students who took enrollment had taken enrollment by giving certificate of hearing disability. These people had obtained their certificates fraudulently from Kolkata, BHU and PGI Chandigarh. The disability certificates given by these people were examined from all three medical colleges.

The college management here has written that the disability certificate has never been issued from these medical colleges. Gradually this matter spread like wildfire in the entire college. Political influence was also used by the organized gang to cover up the matter. But the principal did not succumb to any pressure.

Most of the students taking enrollment on fake disability certificates are from minority community. Most of them are residents of Mithila region of Bihar. In the year 2023, Mohammad Shahabuddin, Farhat Shamim and Ajit Kumar had taken nomination. Similarly, in 2024, Mohsin, Mojahid, Azhar and Mohammad Rashid got their nominations done. College Principal Harishankar Mishra said that a letter has been written to the Health Department for action against the arrested students. These arrested students were studying in second and third year.

Open poll due to hostel dispute

Employees of the Medical College say that if the matter regarding the hostel dispute had not progressed, this fraud would not have been exposed. Karthik wanted to stay in the hostel after taking nomination, but he did not get a place in the hostel. Angered by this, Karthik along with his friends created a ruckus in the college. The college staff tried their best to calm the uproar. The matter reached the principal of the college.

The students also misbehaved with the principal. Angered by this, the principal started checking the disability certificate. During investigation, all seven disability certificates were found to be fake. When this matter reached the students, all the students who committed fraud left the hostel and ran away. The Principal has written a letter to the Director of the Health Department seeking permission to take legal action against these students. Medical college sources say that this business is being done by an organized gang at the country level. If investigation is done in other medical colleges of the country also, a big fraud gang will be busted.
