Virat Kohli was out after scoring 93 runs in the Vadodara ODI on Sunday (January 11). Kohli was easily on his way to his 54th ODI century, when he stepped forward and got caught at mid-off by New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson in an attempt to play a big shot. As soon as he was out, there was silence in the Kotambi Stadium of Vadodara. No one expected that he would get out like this after getting close to his century.

Chasing the target of 301 runs, the Indian team had scored 234 runs at the end of 39 overs. Team India needed 67 runs from 66 balls and had 8 wickets left. Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were completely settled at the crease. It seemed that Kohli was about to score a century but he became a victim of the nervous nineties. He faced 91 balls in his innings and hit 8 fours and 1 six.

This accident happened for the 8th time with Kohli

Virat Kohli had already become a victim of nervous nineties 7 times in his ODI career. Kohli was out between 90 and 99 six times, while he returned unbeaten on 96 runs in the 2017 Champions Trophy semi-final against Bangladesh. He became a victim of nervous nineties for the eighth time as he was out for 93 runs in Vadodara. He has come joint third with Jacques Kallis in terms of most number of dismissals in the nervous nineties in One Day Internationals.

Sachin Tendulkar was a victim of nervous nineties maximum 18 times in ODI. After Sachin, the names of Kane Williamson, Grant Flower, Nathan Astle and Arvind D’Silva are in this list. All these players have been out between 90 and 99 9 times each.
