The Women’s Premier League has been a paradise for batsmen, with flat pitches, short boundaries – and let’s be honest, fearless strokeplay. & yet still, every season, there are bowlers who spring into action, breaking partnerships, stopping run flows dead in their tracks and turning matches on their head.

Taking wickets in the WPL is no easy feat – and those who top the charts genuinely deserve all the praise that comes their way.

Amelia Kerr, a quality all-rounder from New Zealand, has recently written her name in the history books during the first WPL 2026 game, and has swiftly added her name to an elite list.

On that note, take a gander at the bowlers who have claimed the most wickets in WPL history so far, and how they’ve left their mark on the competition.

Jess Jonassen – 33 wickets

Tied at number 4 is Delhi Capitals’ left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen – who has somehow managed to pick up 33 wickets in just 24 games. Her stats are pretty impressive – a 20.75 average and a 7.74 economy. You can tell Jess’ strength is in her control and variation – she’s got an uncanny knack of tempting batsmen into making mistakes and generally making life hard for them.

And then there’s her outstanding performance – 4/31. In tight games Jonassen’s calm presence is the one thing that often makes all the difference for Delhi Capitals.

Nat Sciver-Brunt – 33 wickets

Another Mumbai Indians player, Nat Sciver-Brunt, has also picked up 33 wickets in 30 WPL games – with an average of 22.12 and an economy of 7.68. She’s one of those bowlers who just delivers with discipline and intelligence – whether she’s bowling the new ball or the middle overs. Sciver-Brunt isn’t flashy and she doesn’t need to be – in a tournament as competitive as the WPL, she’s reliable, and that’s something that counts for a lot.

Sophie Ecclestone – 36 wickets

UP Warriorz Women have got Sophie Ecclestone playing for them, and she’s claimed 36 wickets in just 25 WPL games. Not bad at all, with an average of 18.38 and an economy of 6.68. Sophie is one of the best spinners in women’s cricket, and she hasn’t taken long to make a name for herself in the WPL.

And then there’s her best figures – 4/13. It just goes to show how devastating she can be when she gets in her rhythm.

Hayley Matthews – 41 wickets

Just one wicket behind the top wicket-taker is Hayley Matthews – another top bowler for the Mumbai Indians. With 41 wickets from 29 games, an average of 17.56 and an economy of 7.24, Matthews is a player who manages to pick up wickets even when others can’t. You know the kind of bowler she is – quietly building pressure before delivering the killer blow.

Amelia Kerr – 42 wickets

And then at the very top of the list is Amelia Kerr – and it’s hardly surprising. Amelia is calm, clever and endlessly consistent – she’s the kind of bowler you can rely on time and time again. In just 30 WPL games she’s managed to claim 42 wickets at a 17.16 average and an economy of 7.54. And she’s the only one on this list who’s managed to take five wickets in an innings – no mean feat.

Amelia Kerr, one of the key players in her team, never fails to deliver when the team needs a wicket, be it through her cunning leg-spin or her astute reading of batters. She managed to demonstrate her winning ability through the career-best performance of 5/38 but still the regular wickets are the ones that really highlight her talent.
