Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has flatly refused to grant relief to three accused in a major online fraud case. The court said that cyber crime has now become a serious threat to the society, which is badly affecting the economic and social condition of the people. Rouse Avenue Court made this comment while rejecting the anticipatory bail petitions of Anik Jain, Amardeep Sharma and Arihant Jain.
This case has been registered by CBI, in which all three are facing serious charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and online fraud. Along with this, several sections of the Information Technology Act have also been imposed against him. This case was heard in the court of Special Judge Rajesh Malik.
The court said that when the charges are directly to cyber crime, it is not appropriate to grant anticipatory bail in such cases. The judge also said that the investigation is still in its initial stages and it is not completely clear how many people have become victims of this fraud. In further investigation, custodial interrogation of the accused may also be required. Therefore, it would be wrong to give them relief at this time.
According to the application filed in Rouse Avenue Court, a private company M/s Lord Mahavir Services India Private Limited had acquired 7,721 SIM cards from Vodafone Idea during the year 2024-25. These SIM cards were used to defraud the common people. It is alleged that the callers pretending to be officials of TRAI, police or other government agencies used to scare people and extort money from them.
CBI told the court that the company had given fake documents and false list of end users to get the SIM card. Many SIMs were issued in the names of people who were not even employees of the company. This makes it clear that this entire network was created to commit fraud in a planned manner.
Considering the seriousness of the case and the evidence revealed so far, the Rouse Avenue Court rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of the three accused. This decision is being considered an important step towards adopting a strict stance in the increasing cases of cyber crime. The Court’s remarks underline the seriousness of such crimes and send a message that strict action will be taken against cyber criminals.
