Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Dayanidhi Maran made a controversial statement on Wednesday. Politics has also heated up over his statement. Maran said that in North India, girls are asked to work in the kitchen, stay at home and bear children, while in Tamil Nadu, girls are asked to study. He also raised the issue of language and accused some states of teaching only Hindi. He says that there are educated people in Tamil Nadu. This is the reason why today every company of the world is coming here.
   
Dayanidhi Maran had come to participate in a program organized under the chairmanship of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. Here he claimed that MK Stalin’s government is working on the principle of ‘everything for everyone’ and this is the real ‘Dravidian model’ government. The Dravidian model of the state gives equal opportunities for education to girls and boys. This has increased the literacy level among women in the state and also increased their participation in the workforce.

Maran further said, ‘In Tamil Nadu we ask women to study, but what is said in North India? They say that girls should not go to work. Should stay at home. Must manage the kitchen and have children. This is your job. It also said that boys and girls in Tamil Nadu are expected to use laptops provided by the government. Will give interview with confidence and get admission in post graduation.

‘Unemployment is increasing just by teaching Hindi’

Dayanidhi Maran criticized some states and said that only Hindi is taught there and English is discouraged. He claims, ‘In some states one is asked not to study English. It is also argued that if you did this you would be ruined. You will be kept as a slave. He says that discouraging English education limits employment opportunities. Today all the top companies of the world are coming to Tamil Nadu because there are educated people here.

Why do global companies come to Tamil Nadu?

Maran said, ‘This is Tamil Nadu. This is Dravida Nadu. This is the land of M Karunanidhi, Anna and MK Stalin. Your (women’s) progress on this earth is the progress of Tamil Nadu. Why do global companies come to Chennai? Because everyone here is educated not only in Tamil but also in English.

Apologize to Hindi speaking people: BJP

Tamil Nadu BJP leader Tirupati Narayan condemned Dayanidhi Maran’s statement. He said that I used to think, ‘Dayanidhi Maran does not have any sense at all. This is the problem. I strongly condemn his statement. He should apologize to the people of the country, especially the Hindi speaking people, whom he has described as uneducated and uncivilized.
