Mumbai: The success of 'Kantara: Chapter 1' has made a significant impact across India. Actor and director Rishab Shetty has meticulously brought to life a story centered around the rituals and beliefs of coastal deities (Daivas) on the big screen.
Following the release of 'Kantara' and 'Kantara: Chapter 1', there have been several attempts to imitate these deities. Recently, famous Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh imitated a 'Daiva' at the Goa Film Festival. His act of referring to the Daiva as a 'ghost' (devva) had sparked outrage among devotees, after which he issued an apology.
Now, it is reported that an upcoming Bollywood film has attempted to insult 'Kantara'. The movie, titled 'Rahu Ketu', is set to release this January 16. The film features Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Shalini Pandey, Piyush Mishra, Chunky Pandey, Amit Sial, and Manu Rishi Chadha.
The Censor Board has reportedly cut several scenes from this comedy film, including a reference to 'Kantara: Chapter 1'. A scene using the 'Kantara' reference and the sacred Daiva roar for a comedic sequence was ordered to be removed. Additionally, a scene mentioning the "middle finger" was censored and asked to be replaced with the term "pinky finger."
The board directed the removal of the Daiva roar to avoid hurting the sentiments of devotees and subsequently granted the film a 'U/A' certificate. Despite repeated requests from Rishab Shetty and Hombale Films not to imitate the Daiva, such instances continue to occur.
