Monthly Shivratri: The first monthly Shivratri of the year 2026 is being celebrated today. This day holds special significance for Shiva devotees, because by worshiping Lord Shiva on the monthly Shivratri, wishes are fulfilled. It is believed that the devotees who observe fast on this day with true heart and worship as per rituals, receive special blessings of Bholenath.

However, it is considered very important to follow the correct time, method and rules in the worship of monthly Shivratri. The special thing is that today the auspicious time of puja is only 52 minutes in the night. Auspicious time of monthly Shivratri

According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Magh month is starting from 10:51 am today. This date will end on January 18 at 12:33 pm.

Monthly Shivratri puja is done at night. Today, the auspicious time for worshiping Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Lord Ganesha will be from 11:42 pm to 12:34 am. That means Shiva devotees will get a total of 52 minutes time for worship.

Monthly Shivratri puja method

On the day of monthly Shivratri, take bath in the morning and wear clean clothes. After this, clean the place of worship and light a lamp in front of the idol or picture of Lord Shiva. Anoint Shivling with Ganga water and then offer Belpatra, Dhatura, milk, curd and ghee.

On this day, along with Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Lord Ganesha are also worshipped. On monthly Shivratri, chant Om Namah Shivay mantra 108 times. Apart from this, reciting Shiv Chalisa and monthly Shivratri Katha is also considered auspicious. At the end of the puja, offer bhog and eat satvik food.

Avoid these mistakes on monthly Shivratri

It is important to take special care of some things on the day of Monthly Shivratri. Maintain distance from garlic, onion and other tamasic food on this day. If you are observing a fast, then try to complete it, because breaking the fast is not considered auspicious.

Before starting the puja, ensure that the puja place is completely clean. If there is any kind of impure object in the puja room, the puja is considered incomplete. During the fast, keep your mind calm, stay away from negative thoughts and control your anger. Avoid speaking harsh words towards anyone. It is believed that the more calm and positive the mind is, the more the blessings of Lord Shiva will be received.
