Mathura: A major accident was narrowly avoided today in the religious city of Mathura. Here suddenly a massive fire broke out in a motorcycle parked in a parking lot on Civil Line Road near Sadar Tehsil. It is being told that the fire broke out due to short circuit. Within no time the bike became a ball of fire and black smoke covered the sky. Dozens of other vehicles were also parked nearby at the place where the fire broke out, which created panic among the people present there.
When high flames were rising from the bike and there was a danger of burning more than 12 other vehicles parked nearby, a policeman posted there came forward as an ‘angel’. Without caring for his life, the constable dragged the burning bike from the parking lot to the middle of the road. Due to this promptness of the policeman, the fire did not spread to other vehicles. If the bike was not removed in time, all the vehicles parked in the parking lot could have been turned into piles of ashes.
The flames were so strong that the bike owner and the local people tried hard to extinguish it by pouring soil and water, but did not succeed. The surprising thing was that the fire brigade vehicle reached the spot much after informing the fire department. By the time the fire was brought under control, the motorcycle was completely burnt to iron.
This incident has also exposed the great negligence of the administration and parking operators. Despite having such a large parking lot, there was no arrangement to extinguish the fire. Even basic facilities like fire extinguishers were not available in the parking complex. Due to this lack of security resources, the fire took a huge form and people had to face a lot of trouble.
The surprising thing was that the bike kept burning in the middle of the road, but the pedestrians and administrative vehicles kept passing by it, risking their lives. There was a danger of the petrol tank in the burning bike bursting, which could lead to a major explosion. However, it was fortunate that due to the presence of mind of the policeman, there was no loss of life and a major accident was averted.
