State Bank of India
The country's largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI) has made major changes in the rules related to customer transactions. First the ATM transaction charges were increased and now the bank has decided to impose new fees on IMPS (Immediate Money Transfer) also. This will especially affect those customers who use digital transactions and ATMs of other banks more.
SBI's new IMPS charges will be applicable from 15 February 2026. The bank has clarified that there will be no charge on IMPS transfer up to Rs 25,000 through digital channels (Internet Banking, Mobile Banking and YONO App). But now fees will have to be paid on amounts above Rs 25,000.
That means IMPS is still free for small amounts, but a small charge will have to be paid for transferring large amounts.
Relief to those doing IMPS from branch
If you go to SBI branch and transfer IMPS, then there is relief news for you. No new changes have been made on IMPS from the branch. Like before, the charge will remain ₹2 to ₹20 + GST.
SBI has exempted certain types of salary packages and savings accounts from IMPS charges. These include DSP, PMSP, ICSP, CGSP, PSP, RSP Account, Shaurya Family Pension Account and SBI Rishtey Family Savings Account. Customers of these accounts will not have to pay additional charges.
Before IMPS, SBI had changed the ATM and ADWM charges from December 1, 2025. This was the second major update regarding ATM charges in 2025.
SBI is advising that customers should use the bank's more than 63,000 ATMs and ADWM as much as possible, so that additional charges can be avoided. The new rules of SBI show that now it has become even more important to use digital transactions and ATM wisely. IMPS is free for small amounts, but for large amounts and using ATMs of other banks, it may impact your pocket. With proper planning, these charges can be avoided to a great extent.
