New Delhi: After the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) demanded the International Cricket Council (ICC) to swap their groups in T20 World Cup during their meet in Dhaka, Cricket Ireland (CI) has ruled out the change in the venues, states a report in Cricbuzz. CI categorically stated that the ICC will not move out their World Cup games out of Sri Lanka.

Amid the recent stand-off between the ICC and BCB over the latter’s T20 World Cup participation in India, members of the ICC were sent to Dhaka on Saturday to try and convince the BCB for the participation but they remained firm on their decision of not travelling to India for the marquee event which begins on February 7.

Cricket Ireland official confirms development

A Cricket Ireland official confirmed to Cricbuzz that: ‘We’ve received definitive assurances that we won’t move from the original schedule. We’re definitely playing the Group Stage in Sri Lanka’.

During the ICC-BCB meeting in Bangladesh on January 17, the officials from Bangladesh presented the idea to the global governing body of swapping the groups with Ireland, which would take their group fixtures to the island nation and they will not have to travel to India for the showpiece event. The ICC said that it is quite difficult to swap the groups as a lot of logistical adjustments would have to done in the matter.

The BCB is though hopeful that the dialogue with the ICC will continue in the coming days and they will reach some amicable solution soon. Meanwhile, Ireland have been placed in Group C along with co-hosts Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe and Oman. Bangladesh are in Group B alongside West Indies, England, Nepal and Italy with their group matches scheduled in Kolkata and Mumbai.
