If hair-care is a priority for you, let go of the bed-coffee habit. Caffeine can actually increase dehydration. So, before drinking coffee or tea, we have to ensure that we have gifted more than enough water to our system already.

Breakfast is another opportunity for us to express love towards hair and our body. Many of us might already know that hair is made up of keratin, which is a fibrous and strong structural protein. Therefore, providing a good amount of protein first thing in the morning will improve hair growth. Add eggs, Greek yogurt or berries into your breakfast. Oats and avocados are also healthy options. Indeed, remember to avoid those sugary pastries. They may give you a ‘sugar high’ at that moment. But, in the long-run, sugar-eating habit will create imbalance in our hormonal cycles, thereby thwarting hair wellness.

We all know that exercise increases blood flow. Hence, a morning workout will boost the blood flow into your scalp and as a result nourishes your hair. The best part? You don’t even have to visit gym. Take a brisk walk for 15-20 minutes or do some powerful yoga poses or jog for 15 minutes. Additionally, yogic postures like Shirshasana and Sasangasana increases blood flow into the scalp. Learn them and start the morning with these postures as well. Another bonus point? Exercise greatly reduced stress which is a key reason for hair-fall for individuals of all age groups.

When it comes to hair health, hot water is not our best alley. It can weaken the strands and will also reduce the presence of natural oils significantly. Instead always try to wash with warm water. Secondly, use a soft shampoo that is free from sulphate 2-3 times a week. Thirdly, if the shower in your home is providing hard water, use a DIY softener to bathwater or install shower-head filters. All of us should know that hard water bathing can increase hair breakage through the building up of minerals such as calcium and magnesium in hair. Last, but not the least, be soft and kind on your hair while drying. Gently pat with a soft towel or old t-shirt. You can also keep them free and air dry.

As discussed earlier, stress is a key contributor to hair fall. Thus, beginning your day with a mindfulness exercise such as meditation, yoga or tai chi will help a lot. Set aside a few minutes in the morning. A calmer mind will ensure a happier scalp.



7. Protect Hair from Sun

If you spend a lot of time outdoors, make sure that you find some ways to protect your hair from UV rays which can weaken hair protein and reduce colour. You can use a leave-in conditioner or even a hat. If you are going with the latter option, buy a loose one. A fit hat can lead to breakage due to friction.
