A brand-new £30bn city will, when finished, be three times bigger than Paris and will feature its own racetrack.

Said city, Qiddiyain Saudi Arabia, is being built on the desert sands and has been billed as a place that offers residents “limitless opportunities.”

The construction of Qiddiya forms part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a programme aimed at diversifying the country’s economy to include tourism and entertainment.

According to the official site for the new urban hub, the city will be located 45km (28.12 miles) from Riyadhand 70km (43.75 miles) from King Khalid International Airport.

Qiddiya will cover an area of around 360 square kilometres, comprising 20 “neighbourhoods” for approximately 500,000 residents, and will include all the accoutrements of a modern city.

Also referred to as “The City of the Future,” Qiddiya will feature a Formula 1 circuit, a stadium for the 2034 World Cup, and artificial beaches, reports Infobae.

In addition, Qiddiya City’s 2024 ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Report highlights that, despite the emissions from construction, sustainability remains at the core of the city’s goals.

Chief Strategy Officer Muhannad Aldawood said: “This report is more than a compilation of data and narratives; it embodies our values, partnerships and unwavering commitment to leaving a legacy of environmental stewardship, social impact and economic resilience.”

Although the city is still under construction, some sections have already opened, including the area hosting the Dakar Rallyand the $1bn (£744m) Six Flags theme park, which launched on December 31st.

While the Dakar continues its high-speed adventure across the desert, the Six Flags park has opened after four years of construction by the American company.

The project includes Falcon’s Flight, the world’s longest, tallest, and fastest rollercoaster, with passengers reaching speeds of over 150mph and ascending 195m into the sky.

Following the opening, Six Flags CEO John Reilly said: “Six Flags is proud to announce the opening of Six Flags Qiddiya City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a landmark project that will redefine entertainment in the region.

“This world-class destination combines cutting-edge, record-breaking attractions, immersive experiences for all ages, and the signature thrills that have made Six Flags a global leader.”
