Ration card new rules 2026: If you have a ration card then this news is very important for you. Now the method of distributing ration is completely changing, so that there is no fraud and only the right people get their rights. The government has made some new and strict rules, which are fully implemented from January 2026. If you do not follow these rules, it is possible that you may stop getting ration. Let us understand in simple language what all you have to do. 1. First and most important task: Get the Aadhaar card linked. Now it is mandatory for every ration card to be linked to the Aadhaar number. Without this, work will no longer be possible. Not only the head of the family, but the Aadhaar card of every member of the household should be linked to the ration card. If you go to the Kotedar without linking Aadhaar, the machine will not give your ration. This rule has been made so that fake names can be removed. 2. Second task: Get E-KYC done, otherwise the name will be cut off! E-KYC means that you will have to undergo thumb impression or eye scan. You will have to get your identity confirmed by getting it done. You can get this work done by going to the Kotedar’s shop or any nearby government centre. It only takes two minutes. Its last date is 31st January. If you do not get this done, your name may be removed from the list and the ration you are getting may be stopped. 3. Government’s strictness on fake and duplicate cards: The government has removed lakhs of such names from the list, which were either fake, or the person has died, or has gone to live somewhere else. If your name has been removed by mistake, then do not panic. The government has also set up camps for this, where you can get your name added again by showing your documents. Families with higher income will also have to surrender their cards. 4. One country, one ration card: Now ration will be available anywhere. This is one of the best schemes of the government. Now you can take ration in any corner of the country on your ration card. If you are from Bihar and working as a laborer in Delhi, you will get your share of food grains at any ration shop in Delhi. This facility will be available only when your ration card is linked to Aadhaar. Before going to the Kotedar (ration dealer), check these 4 things: Make sure that your name, age, everything is same in your Aadhaar card and ration card. Yes, go to the online nfsa.gov.in portal and check your e-KYC status once. Your correct mobile number should be linked to the ration card. If you want to add the name of a new daughter-in-law or child in the house, then get it updated as well. The government is organizing camps to help you. If you are facing any problem in doing all this, then the government has organized special camps in the village panchayats and municipal corporation offices in the cities. You can go there and get e-KYC done for free and tell your problem. You can also call the helpline number 1800-11-1122. This change is necessary so that no one else can take away your rights. Therefore, all of you should be careful so that you continue to get your rights.
