Jaipur: A devastating road accident on National Highway-48 near Jaipur resulted in the death of three members of the same family and left seven others seriously injured, once again drawing attention to the growing risks on Indian highways. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a speeding car lost control and violently crashed into a stationary container truck parked along the roadside.

The impact of the collision was so intense that the front section of the car was completely destroyed, leaving no chance of survival for three occupants. The accident not only caused immense personal loss but also disrupted traffic movement on one of the busiest highway stretches connecting Jaipur and Delhi.
The tragic incident took place around 11:00 am near the Chandwaji police station area on the Jaipur-Delhi highway. According to local authorities, the accident happened at Bilpur, approximately one kilometre before the Chandwaji flyover. This stretch of NH-48 is known for heavy vehicular movement, especially during daytime hours.
Eyewitnesses present at the scene stated that the car was traveling at a very high speed before it suddenly went out of control and rammed into the parked container truck. The truck was reportedly stationed on the roadside when the collision occurred.
Doctors at NIMS Hospital declared three people dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Pooja Singh, Basanti, and Vivek Kumar. All three belonged to the same family and were residents of Dibulgaj in Varanasi district. Vivek Kumar was the son of Harishankar, while Pooja Singh was his wife. Basanti was the wife of Harishankar and the mother of Vivek Kumar.
The loss of multiple family members in a single incident has left relatives and locals in deep shock and grief. Due to the severity of the crash, the engine of the car was thrown out, and the vehicle’s front portion was nearly split into two parts.
Seven other passengers, including women and young children, sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were immediately rushed to NIMS Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Several victims were trapped inside the mangled vehicle and had to be pulled out with the help of local residents and police personnel.
The injured individuals include Vikas, Aditi, Nikki, Sibu, and Kuku, all residents of Dibulgaj in Varanasi. Two additional injured passengers, Anshu and Deepraj, are residents of Phoola in Raebareli. Hospital sources confirmed that some of the injured remain under close medical observation due to the seriousness of their condition.
According to Chandwaji SHO Hiralal Saini, the car was traveling from Jaipur towards Delhi and was carrying men, women, and children from the same family. Police officials stated that the family was returning after completing a pilgrimage to Khatushyamji, a popular religious destination in Rajasthan.
Initial investigation suggests that overspeeding may have been a major factor behind the accident. Authorities are also considering the possibility that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to a loss of control over the vehicle. Both the damaged car and the container truck have been seized for further technical examination and investigation.
Following the crash, traffic movement on NH-48 came to a standstill for nearly 30 minutes. A long queue of vehicles formed on both sides of the highway, causing inconvenience to commuters and transport vehicles. Police personnel worked swiftly to clear the wreckage and regulate traffic, after which movement was gradually restored.
This incident once again highlights how roadside parking of heavy vehicles and high-speed driving can create deadly conditions on national highways.
Road accidents on national highways continue to increase across India, raising serious concerns about traffic management, driver behavior, and enforcement of safety norms. In July 2025, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha that more than 27,000 people lost their lives in highway accidents during the first six months of 2025 alone.
These alarming figures underline the urgent need for stricter speed control, better roadside safety measures, improved driver awareness, and timely enforcement of traffic regulations. Without effective intervention, such tragic incidents are likely to continue claiming innocent lives on Indian roads.
