A UK destination with golden-sand beaches that rival those in the Caribbean has been ranked the most romantic place to visit for a getaway.
In the lead-up to Valentine's Day, which falls on a Saturday this year, couples will be looking to book a romantic weekend escape.
In the weeks leading up to February 14, many people are searching for a 'Valentine's weekend getaway' with data revealing a whopping 5,000% surge in the past 30 days, according to Choose Leisure. Following this, the Kent-based motorhome company revealed the most searched for destination when it comes to celebrating the romantic occasion, and found that Cornwall came out on top.
Cornwall has long been known as a desirable UK escape with its picturesque coastlines and clear turquoise waters, yet its laid-back approach and seaside lifestyle are an added allure for those seeking a romantic escape. Not to mention, Cornwall is worlds away from busy cities like London or Birmingham, making it another desirable feature for those looking to switch off and relax.
The south coast has often been dubbed the Cornish Riviera, thanks to its milder climate compared to other parts in the UK, its stretches of stunning coastline, calm waters, and sheltered coves and bays. It's the ideal location to soak up the sunshine, walk along the coast, or explore some of Cornwall's charming towns or harbour villages.
One of Cornwall's most popular places to visit is the picturesque seaside town of St Ives, with famed beaches like Porthmeor, Porthminster, and Harbour Beach. The town has a thriving art scene, with the seafront Tate St Ives gallery, along with independent shops and an expanding food scene, including seafood restaurants Porthminster Kitchen and The Loft Restaurant & Terrace.
St Ives has often been hailed for its Caribbean feel and seaside charm, although it can get extremely busy during the summer months. However, for those looking for that romantic weekend away for Valentine's Day, fewer crowds are expected, and there are plenty of accommodation options still available.
Some of these include the Ten Ocean View, just 200 yards from the beach, the four-star Harbour Hotel & Spa, or the gorgeous Primrose House. Additionally, there are a variety of B&Bs to choose from, whatever your budget for that idyllic escape.
Other popular locations in Cornwall include Padstow, with its thriving food scene and harbour, and Port Isaac, a quintessential fishing village featured in Doc Martin. There's also Mousehole, described as "the loveliest village in England," with its charming harbour, and Fowey, a historic port town with independent shops and riverside walks.
Cornwall is also home to some of the most incredible natural wonders in the world, including Kynance Cove, Bedruthan Steps, and St Nectan's Glen waterfall. It also boasts Tintagel Castle, Bodmin Moor, St Michael's Mount and the famed Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan, so there's plenty to explore.

Dave Williams, Managing Director at Choose Leisure, said: "We're seeing a real shift towards couples choosing flexible, slower travel for Valentine's weekend. Taking a road trip allows you to avoid crowded hotels, change plans at the last minute, and enjoy genuine quality time together, which is exactly what many couples are looking for."
