Chelseaare reportedly closing in on completing their first signing of the January transfer window.

The Blues have been linked with a host of potential new signings before the deadline on February 2, and appear to be moving closer to bringing a new player to Stamford Bridge.

It has been reported that Sheffield Wednesday star Yisa Alao is on the verge of completing a move to Chelseabefore the transfer window closes.

The Sheffield Star have reported that Chelsea appear to be winning the race to sign Alao, which would see them beat a host of clubs to the 17-year-old’s signature.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in signing Alao.

It seems, though, that Chelsea will be the teenager’s destination with the Blues reportedly expected to complete the signing of Alao before the transfer window closes.

The same outlet has reported in the past that Chelsea had made a six-figure offer to Wednesday in an effort to sign Alao.

However, it is still unclear what the final fee would be if the move were to be completed.

Aloa plays at left-back for Wednesday and has already been given regular opportunities in the Championship club’s first team this season.

Owls manager Henrik Pedersen has given five appearances for Alao this season, including two in the Championship with the other three have come in the domestic cup competitions.

However, there was no place in the matchday squad for Alao in Wednesday’s clash against Birmingham city in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Alao was named in the Wednesday starting line-up by Pederson in their 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth in the Championship earlier this month, with the teenager utilised in a more advanced midfield role rather than in defence.

Chelsea have until February 2 to complete their transfer business, and a deal for Alao could go on to be their first signing of the January transfer window.
