A sessions court in Bengaluru has instructed over 30 media organizations to eliminate content deemed defamatory regarding Karnataka police officer K Ramachandra Rao. This directive comes after Rao was suspended following the circulation of videos that allegedly depicted him engaging in inappropriate behavior with women in his office, as reported by a legal news outlet.

The controversial videos reportedly show Rao, who serves as the director general of police for civil rights enforcement, in uniform, embracing and kissing women during work hours.

On Tuesday, the court issued an ex parte temporary injunction, prohibiting media outlets from publishing, broadcasting, or sharing any defamatory news, comments, or recordings related to Rao until the next hearing date.

An ex parte injunction is a legal order granted without hearing from the opposing party.

The court's order also mandated that all media entities, including prominent channels, remove any defamatory videos, audio clips, and reports concerning the suspended officer from their websites and social media platforms immediately.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on February 27.

Rao was suspended on Monday, with the Karnataka government's Under Secretary KV Ashoka stating that he behaved in a manner unbecoming of a public servant, which embarrassed the government. The suspension was deemed necessary while an inquiry is conducted.

In response to the allegations, Rao asserted that the video was manipulated and originated eight years ago when he was stationed in Belagavi. He indicated plans to consult legal experts before deciding on further actions.

This is not the first controversy for Rao; he faced scrutiny last year when his stepdaughter, Kannada actress Ranya Rao, was arrested for gold smuggling. He was placed on compulsory leave amid accusations of assisting her in avoiding security checks at Bengaluru airport, but was later reinstated as the director general of police for civil rights enforcement in August.
