Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has given fans a glimpse into his Sunday morning fitness regime. The 59-year-old, who has transformed himself from what he once called an 18-stone 'fat chef' into a dedicated amateur endurance athlete, regularly competes in marathons and Ironman events.

Taking to Instagram, where he boasts 19.5 million followers, Ramsay posted a video showcasing his swimming kit - complete with goggles, swim cap, water bottle, towel, snacks and energy gels - alongside a swimming pool.

He captioned the post: "Sunday morning swim, followed by a 60min strength workout LFG......."

A follow-up post revealed his impressive stats: a 2,000m swim completed in 34 minutes and 49 seconds, at a pace of 1:46. His followers were quick to praise his commitment, with one commenting: "Very good going! Wow."

Another wrote: "Great meeting you on the way up!" whilst a third added: "Idk why but Gordon saying "LFG" is sending me I respect the grind.", reports Wales Online.

Last year at the AEH IRONMAN 70.3 Costa Navarino in Greece, Gordon finished behind both his wife, Tana, and daughter, Tilly. Tilly came out on top with a time of 6:00.40, securing fourth place in her age category and beating her father by an impressive 43 minutes.

Gordon crossed the line at 6:44.38, whilst Tana, who managed to overtake her husband during the running section, finished in 6:10.07. Cornwall-based chef Paul Ainsworth recorded a personal best of 5:29.17 in the same event.

Gordon has previously opened up about his diet and how he manages to maintain his weight despite being surrounded by rich foods in his profession. He revealed: "I love eating. We have a protein shake in the morning, scrambled eggs for lunch, and then something poached for dinner, whether it's poached chicken or fish. We don't do lots of salads but it's finding that balance.

"The role of a chef today is way more prolific than it was 20-30 years ago and we need to be fit, we need to be smart, and we need to set that example to the team.

"We are super disciplined as well. I'll eat two mouthfuls of a delicious dish and then ignore it, and it's painful. You sit there like a green-eyed monster desperate to devour that whole plate and i'll discipline myself to two mouthfuls, then i'll get out of that plate and it pains me because I know if I eat a fourth, fifth, or sixth mouthful, then that's it, it's game over. It's the discipline that drives me, the discipline of saying, 'two mouthfuls, then get out of there'."
