This committee will work under the monitoring and guidance of the Supreme Court.

During the hearing, the court was told that illegal mining activities are coming to light in various parts of the Aravali region. On this, Additional Solicitor General K.M., appearing for the Rajasthan government. Nataraj assured the court that no illegal mining would be allowed in the state.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also maintained its decision to keep in abeyance its order given on November 20 regarding uniform definition of Aravalli Mountain Range and ranges. The court had earlier said that there are some serious ambiguities in the new definition, which need to be resolved.

It is noteworthy that on November 20, the Supreme Court had banned the issuance of new mining leases in the Aravalli mountain range spread in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. This ban was imposed until the experts’ report came. The decision was taken based on the recommendations of a committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, which aims to conserve the Aravali, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. Now further decisions to mining and conservation in the Aravalli region will be taken only on the basis of the report of the expert committee to be constituted by the Supreme Court.
