Stand-up comedian Zakir Khanmight be putting the pause on the one thing his fans most closely associate with him: live tours. In the last 24 hours, the internet has been abuzz with rumors about the comedian planning to take a long break from stage performances, possibly for several years. What he disclosed during his show was that the break might not be a short one. It could even go on for three, four, or five years, with Zakir suggesting that it could be until 2028, 2029, or even 2030.
While he didn’t frame it as quitting comedy altogether, Zakir implied that he needs time to focus on his health and certain personal responsibilities. He also thanked the audience, saying their love and presence mattered deeply to him, making it clear that the decision is emotional and not taken lightly.
Instagram update hints the break is realBesides talking, Zakir also posted an Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon, which most people took as confirmation. After landing in Dubai, he shared one more update, implying that it was a done deal.
In the note, he encouraged the fans to make every show coming up a celebration up to June 20. He also confesses that he will be doing only a few cities during this phase and, therefore, asks the fans to go to the shows that are already planned. Basically, it seemed like he wanted this tour to be a pretty memorable farewell before the break.
Why Zakir Khan Is Stepping BackZakir has been talking about the effect that constant touring has had on his body. In some posts he shared last September, he opened up about how tough it was physically after years of nonstop travelling, sleepless nights, frequent flights, and irregular meals. So, even though he was sick for several months, he still went on stage because he didn’t want to disappoint work and fans.
It seems that the stand-up comic has finally come to terms with the fact that he cannot disregard his health any longer. Reports say that this tour is a sort of ‘best of’ that will only visit a handful of cities, and no new dates are going to be added. The artist is also said to be working on a special recording soon, and after that, he might take the long rest that the doctors have advised.
More DetailsZakir initially gained public recognition by winning Comedy Centrals Indias Best Stand, Up in 2012. He has since evolved into a leading figure in Indian comedy with hit specials such as Haq Se Single and Kaksha Gyarvi.
He also made headlines last year when he became the first Indian comedian to do a Hindi show at Madison Square Garden, New York, and he described the experience as a very overwhelming and unforgettable moment.
