The five-match T20 series against New Zealand is all set to start from January 21, that is today, at Nagpur. This series will be following the historic maiden ODI series defeat at home. Prior to the ODI series, in 2024, India lost their three-match Test series for the first time. The T20 series happens to be the only series left to not carry forward the losing streak.

Meanwhile, this is the captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who will be playing his 100th T20I game. Surya had debuted in T20 Internationals in December 2021 at Ahmedabad against England, with a massive six. Since then, he has been an inevitable part of the side, eventually leading the T20I team post Rohit Sharma's retirement.

Since then he has played 99 matches, playing 93 innings, scoring 2788 runs. He has an average of 35.29, with a strike rate of 163.23. He has 4 centuries and 21 half centuries, with his highest score of 171. On November 21, Sky will be playing his 100th T20I becoming the fourth Indian to achieve the feat. Prior to Surya, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya have achieved the feat.

Indian players with more than 100 T20I matches:

Players Matches played Runs scored
Rohit Sharma 159 4231
Virat Kohli 125 4188
Hardik Pandya 124* 2002
Suryakumar Yadav 99* 2788

Not only that, but Surya needs 25 more runs to complete 9000 runs in overall T20 matches he played. Currently he has 8975 runs and ranks fourth in the list of Indian players with the most T20 runs.

Indian players with the most T20 runs:

Players Runs in T20 Innings played
Virat Kohli 13,543 397
Rohit Sharma 12,248 450
Shikhar Dhawan 9797 331
 Suryakumar Yadav 8975

320

In terms of sixes, Surya needs five more to reach the elite list of players with 400 and more sixes in T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma still leads the list, hitting 547 sixes, followed by Virat Kohli, who smacked 435 over boundaries. He needs 2 more sixes to overtake West Indies' Nicholas Pooran (149) to have the most sixes for a non-opening batsman.

Apart from Sky, there are several other records that might be broken at Nagpur.

Indian to achieve these records at Nagpur

Axar Patel is on the brink of multiple milestones, needing just three runs to reach 3,500 T20 runs and eight wickets to complete 50 T20I wickets in India. He is set to become the first Indian all-rounder with 3,500+ T20 runs and 250+ wickets, having already taken 42 wickets at home, behind only Yuzvendra Chahal (49) and Rashid Khan (47).

Abhishek Sharma, currently on 4,918 T20 runs from 164 innings, needs 82 more to become the fastest Indian to 5,000 runs, ahead of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. Ravi Bishnoi is six wickets away from 200 T20 wickets.

For the Kiwis, Rachin Ravindra needs 32 runs to reach 2,000 T20 runs, while Glenn Phillips, given the form he is in, requires 71 runs for 2,000 T20I runs and 76 for 7,000 overall. Devon Conway is 31 runs short of 7,000 T20 runs.
