During lengthyflights,it's only natural to fancy a steaming cuppa or perhaps a cool glass of water to stay hydrated. But one former cabin crewmember is sounding the alarm that drinking these beverages mid-flight might actually pose health risks, urging travellers to be careful.

Kat Kamalani, a former flightattendant, took to TikTok to share her industry insights in a video that racked up more than 500,000 likes. Issuing a stark warning, Kay urged: "Never ever, ever, ever consume these products on an aeroplane from a former flight attendant. Rule number one: Never consume any liquid that is not in a can or a bottle."

According to Kat, aircraft water tanks are seldom cleaned and frequently harbour contamination - a far from refreshing revelation. Kat explained: "The reason is that those water tanks are never cleaned, and they are disgusting." She also revealed that cabin crew in the know typically steer well clear of onboard coffee or tea, as both are prepared using water from these dubious tanks.

As previously reported by Bristol Live, Kat urged: "Talk to a flight attendant, we rarely drink the coffee or tea, they come from the same water tank, and so when you're drinking that coffee, tea or tap water, it comes from that hot water, and it's absolutely disgusting," Kat further highlighted that these water tanks are typically positioned close to the toilets, hardly reassuring when it comes to hygiene standards. Instilling horror in houseproud types everywhere, she shared: "They are rarely cleaned unless they are broken... and they're by the lavatories."

For travelling parents, Kat specifically recommended avoiding requests for hot water to prepare infant bottles. Instead, she recommended: "Ask for a bottle of water on the side and hot water in a cup, then make your baby a bottle with the bottle water and put it in the cup to heat it up." The video has ignited quite the debate amongst seasoned travellers, racking up more than 4,000 comments. One user remarked: "You guys should just clean them every so often, that's so messed up."

Whilst another questioned: "Why don't you guys fix this if you know about it? This is irresponsible." Travel experts also generally recommend avoiding alcoholic beverages whilst flying, as booze can cause dehydration - hardly what you want on an extended journey. Instead, stick to bottled water, fresh orange juice, or herbal teas with low sugar levels to maintain proper hydration.
