Holidays with babies and kids can be tough. Most parents use the strategy of planning as many activitiesas possible during the day, ensuring little ones are tired out at night so you can get a break.

It's no surprise that action-packed holiday resorts like Center Parcs are popular with parents looking to entertain their kids, but one aspect some visitors don't like is the need to self-cater. Although its holiday parks have on-site restaurants, some people prefer the ease of an all-inclusive holiday so they don't need to plan meals and snacks.

Happily, there's a resort in Germany that offers the best of both worlds, surrounded by dense Bavarian Forest and close to the border with the Czech Republic. Ulrichshof Nature has been designed specifically for parents with kids of all ages, and has a huge amount of activities and useful extras included in the price.

One of the main draws of Center Parcs resorts is its pools, and Ulrichshof Nature has a huge selection of indoor and outdoor water-based fun. There's a splash park with a pirate-themed slide and fountains, tube slides, and a whirlpool. For those who want to get their daily laps in, a separate sports pool is available, and the heated outdoor pool is available year-round.

Outside, you can enjoy a forest playground with zip lines, climbing, and more, making the most of the pretty Bavarian location and the fresh air. During the day, there's a huge range of kids' activities for them to get involved in, many of them outdoors, and you'll find a schedule with plenty of fun, themed things to do. Kids will also love visiting the ponies at Ulrichshof's stables, and riding lessons can be booked.

Sports available include tennis, bowling, and basketball. Or you can simply enjoy a walk in the forest, or hire a bike or e-bike to zip around the peaceful trails that surround the park. There are even adorable little Land Rovers for kids to ride around so they don't get tired legs if you're on a long hike.

Their all-inclusive packages include high-quality buffets with a focus on colourful, nutritious food, so don't expect to see a sea of beige at dinner time. However, if you do have a picky eater, there are plenty of kid-friendly options. There's even a baby buffet where tiny tots can choose from a range of purees and finger foods.

Rather than lodge accommodation, Ulrichshof offers family suites of various sizes. Standard rooms feature balconies, separate seating areas, and minibars. You can also upgrade to luxury suites, which have a large living room with plenty of space for two or three kids to play. The park also offers a small selection of pool suites with terraces and private pools.

Ulrichshof is about two hours from Munich Airport, which has a number of routes that connect to the UK. Budget airline easyJet flies to Munich from Bristol and has a seasonal service during peak ski times from London Southend. There are also Lufthansa services from Manchester and Birmingham, with the latter taking under two hours.

About 20 minutes from the hotel is Hohenbogenbahn, a family-friendly ski area with a few trails to suit different ability levels. It's also open in the summer, when you can take the cable car or enjoy the toboggan run and the mountain views.

The nearest town is Furth im Wald, which has classic Bavarian charm, including colourful buildings with wooden shutters and cobbled streets. It's known for its legends and folklore, and one of its most famous attractions is the Drachenhöhle (Dragon's Cave), which features in a medieval play. You can also visit the fun Wildgarten, an outdoor trail full of sculptures of animals and fairytale creatures.
