Several former contestants of The Traitors have gone on to achieve great success after their stint on the BBC series. Notable alumni include Minah Shannon, who now graces the airwaves on BBC Radio 1, and season three's Alexander Dragonetti, who hosts a programme on Classic FM.

This year's Secret Traitor, Fiona Hughes - who has admitted her plan backfired - has made a significant career shift following her appearance on the show. The erstwhile local government officer shared a video from Swansea's Guildhall announcing her official retirement.

The caption read: "Some personal news: today, I retire!" For all the latest TV and showbiz updates, sign up to our newsletter.

She went on to say: "I am incredibly grateful for all the opportunities I've had throughout my career, and especially for the wonderful people I've met and worked with along the way. I really have been blessed and consider myself so, so fortunate. Today marks the end of one chapter, but I'm really excited to see what the next chapter brings. The fondest of farewells @swansea_council".

In the video, she details her extensive career. The 63 year old shared: "Here I am at the prestigious Swansea Guildhall. My last day of working, and I'm here to handover my computer, my security and my mobile phone," reports Wales Online.

"What a journey! I started by becoming a psychiatric nurse following a period of volunteering with the Samaritans. Then went on to setting up and managing the Swansea Victim Support Scheme. Flirted with a little bit of self employment, and then ended up working for Swansea council.

"It's been a heck of a journey, it's had lots of challenges along the way, but I've really enjoyed my working life.

"Thanks to everybody and thanks in particular now to Swansea Council. Bye."

Well-wishers have flooded the comments section with messages of congratulations. One admirer wrote: "Put ya feet up queen."

Another chimed in: "Congratulations Fiona, all the best for a wonderful retirement."

A third commented: "If I miss you on tv after just a few weeks, can't imagine how much you'll be missed by your colleagues. An exciting new chapter ahead now though lovely and I'm sure you're going to have loads of fun."

Her news comes ahead of the final of the Claudia Winkleman-hosted show, which sees original Traitors Stephen and Rachel battling it out with the remaining Faithfuls for the prize pot.

The Traitors final is on BBC One on Friday, January 23 at 8.30pm
