The former Mumbai Indians duo Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav tore apart the New Zealand bowling lineup, winning the match by 7 wickets. Following the match, captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that he was angry at Ishan Kishan.
It was merely a joke, though, but Surya, in the press conference, hailed Ishan Kishan for his match-defining knock at Raipur. Speaking about him getting angry at Ishan, he said that Ishan did not give him the strike in the powerplay. And that triggered him a bit. Well Sky was confident that he will cover it up in the later overs. He said,
“I was angry he didn’t give me strike in the powerplay, but that’s okay. I had some time, played eight or ten balls, and I knew that later on, when I had time, I could cover it up."
Suryakumar Yadav has so far an headache for the management, given his form at the edge of the T20 World Cup scheduled on February 7. In Raipur, the management might have released a sigh of relief for Surya for not only winning the match but also for scoring 82* runs, and that too over a strike rate of 221.
Earlier, in a show at Star Sports, former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif claimed that Surya shines better at number 4, and it got proved. After a faltered first T20I, he did shine at 4.
Notably, Sky, who normally bats at number 3. However, with Tilak Varma being injured, Ishan Kishan came in. To fit in with Ishan, Surya pushed himself down at four, and the team got the desired result.
Before leaving, Surya made sure to remind the fans that he was doing well in the nets, something that went popular from him- out of runs and not out of form.
“As I’ve said before, I was batting really well in the nets. Everything I did back home over the last two or three weeks helped. I got a good break to spend time with my family and friends, had good practice sessions, and I’m really enjoying what’s happening right now."

Suryakumar Yadav praised Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan made his way into the team after a stellar performance in the domestic tournament. He was called in as a back-up wicketkeeper for Sanju Samson, and got his chance replacing Tilak Varma in the eleven.
In the first match he scored just 8 runs before Jacob Duffy got him. At Raipur, he got it balanced. Coming in at 6 for 2, his bat yielded 76 runs off 32 balls, smashing 11 fours and 4 sixes. Praising Ishan, Surya said,
“I don’t know what Ishan had for lunch in the afternoon or what pre-workout he had before the game, but I’ve never seen anyone bat at 6 for 2 in that manner and still end the powerplay around 67 or 70. I thought it was incredible. Chasing 200 or 210, this is what we want from batters – to go out there, express themselves, be happy in their own space. And that’s exactly what he did today."
Notably, India and New Zealand will face off in the third T20I in Guwahati on Sunday.
