Chhattisgarh takes 135-run lead against Delhi Bengaluru (PTI) Riding on brilliant centuries from Ayush Pandey (161 not out) and Ayush Tiwari (108), Chhattisgarh posted 351 for two in their Elite Group D match against Delhi to take a strong 135-run lead.

Star batsman Shubman Gill failed for the second consecutive time as Punjab could not stand against Saurashtra spinners and had to face defeat by 194 runs on the second day. Chasing a big target of 320 runs on a difficult pitch, Punjab’s biggest hope Gill was out after scoring 14 runs in 32 balls. Due to this the visiting team was reduced to just 125 runs in their second innings. In the first innings also Gill was out without opening his account after playing two balls. In both the innings Gill was out LBW by left arm spinner Parth Bhut.

Bhut took a total of 10 wickets in the match. Bhut, who took five wickets for 33 runs in the first innings, performed even more lethally the next day, taking five wickets for just eight runs in 10 overs. The dominance of the spinners can be gauged from the fact that 23 wickets fell on the first day, while 17 batsmen returned to the pavilion on the second day. Bhut was ably supported by fellow spinner Dharmendra Jadeja, who took five wickets for 55 runs.

Punjab couldn’t muster a consistent batting performance, with Uday Saharan leading the innings with 31 off 71 balls. Earlier, Saurashtra, resuming at 24 for 3 from the previous day, improved their performance in the second innings, posting 286. Saurashtra had lost five wickets for 75 runs, and their lead was just 108 runs. The struggles of the lower-order batsmen then put the home team in a strong position.

Prerak Mankad led the innings with 56 runs off 41 balls. India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 46 runs off 44 balls while Bhut made an unbeaten 37 and Hetwik Kotak contributed 39 runs. Saurashtra now has 18 points from six matches while Punjab is stuck at 11 points after six matches. After scoring 323 runs in the first innings at Alur, Madhya Pradesh reduced Karnataka to 168 for 8 at the end of the second day’s play. Karnataka is still trailing by 155 runs. Spinner Saransh Jain took three wickets for 42 runs. Karnataka’s opening batsman KV Anish is unbeaten on 80 runs off 153 balls.
