In an explosive six-page statement, Brooklyn Beckham spectacularly shut down any hopes of a reconciliation with his parents this week. The 26-year-old made a number of allegations against David and Victoria - including claims that they had been "trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding".

Brooklyn and wife Nicola, 31, tied the knot on 9 April 2022 at her family's expansive Palm Beach estate. And it was during the build-up to the big day that reports started to surface of a feud between Victoria and her daughter-in-law - namely a falling-out over the bridal dress. Prior to that the two women had seemed close, dancing together in Instagram videos, commenting on posts and bonding over fashion. But tensions seemingly arose in the run up to the big day.

• Nicola Peltz branded 'fame hungry liar' as ex Anwar Hadid's sister hits out

• Victoria and David Beckham's deep 'guilt' over Brooklyn's most heartbreaking allegation

There is still some confusion over what really happened with Nicola's gown. In his statement on Monday, Brooklyn claimed: "My mum cancelled making Nicola's dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress."

However, Nicola and her stylist Leslie Fremar told Vogue at the time that the custom Valentino wedding look was "the culmination of a year" worth of conversations with Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli's team, two trips to the Rome HQ, and two US fittings".

Back in October 2022, six months after the wedding, Nicola attempted to quell reports of a falling-out with Victoria in an interview with The Times: "It's not a feud! I keep seeing everywhere that word, 'feud, feud, feud'!" Despite conceding that "no family is perfect", she also spoke fondly about her in-laws. And she had a surprising nickname for David.

While she doesn't use his name, she refers to "Brooklyn's dad" as a "legend" and said how much she adored 11-year-old Harper - "I wanted a little sister so bad, and Harper is the sweetest. I have the coolest little sister. She sends me Snapchats."

During the interview, Nicola was asked about the wedding dress rumours - and why she didn't wear one of Victoria's designs. "The real truth is, I really, really wanted to wear it and I thought it was so beautiful that Brooklyn's mom got to make that for me! And I was really excited to wear it! And I didn't end up wearing it," she claimed.

"The truth is that I was in a text chain with my mom, Victoria and Leslie, who has been my stylist, for ten years. We all were on this text chain together, and I was so excited to start the design process... And then she, Victoria, was very busy, and a few days went by, and I didn't hear anything, then I think Victoria thought since I was on set, maybe she didn't want to upset me, so she called my mom and said that she couldn't make the dress.

"She said that her, um, atelier couldn't make the dress in time. So, um, then my mom told me, and then we regrouped and came up with something else. But I, truthfully, was really excited to wear her dress.

"It makes me sad when I read things that people say I was never planning on wearing it. That's just not true. I don't want to read everything, but when it's in your face, sometimes you can't help it. I guess with social media and stuff."

It follows reports that the Beckhams made a major misstep upon their first meeting with Nicola's family, which may well have set the tone for their fraught relationship. It's claimed the two families were introduced when the Beckhams were invited by Nelson and Claudia Peltz to their £76 million home in Palm Beach, Florida.

A source claimed to the Daily Mail: "When they first went to the Peltz house, the Beckhams sent their security team in advance to sweep the place. It's standard procedure when you are a couple with that level of fame, but it did not go down well with the Peltz family.

"They have their own security, of course, and naturally it is the best that money can buy, so there was no need for their visitors to do this. It raised eyebrows." The source added: "The feeling was that the Beckhams were somehow saying they were more important than the Peltzes. It was a simple misstep, but a bad start."
