Shri Nanded Sahib: While paying obeisance at Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra today, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that his government will raise the demand of giving the status of holy city to Nanded Sahib with the Maharashtra government. He said that this holy city holds immense spiritual significance for the Sikhs and the entire humanity in particular.


Recalling that the Punjab Government has already declared Sri Amritsar Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib and Talwandi Sabo as holy cities, the Chief Minister stressed that his government is fully committed to the wide spread of the philosophy of Guru Sahibans.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann also paid obeisance at the holy place of Kalgidhar Patshah ji and met the managers of this religious place. On this occasion, he also witnessed a huge crowd of devotees and local residents who came to pay obeisance at the holy site, which reflects the deep relationship between the sect, its historical institutions and the people who draw inspiration from them.


Nanded Sahib holy place for all


Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Nanded Sahib is a holy place not only for the Sikhs but for the entire humanity as the tenth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji had spent a major part of his life in this holy city.


True tribute to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji


The Chief Minister stressed that the Punjab Government will effectively raise with the Maharashtra Government the demand for granting holy city status to Nanded Sahib, which will be a true tribute to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He further said that recently the 350th Martyrdom Day of the ninth Guru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who sacrificed his life for the protection of religious freedom and human rights, was celebrated by the State Government with deep reverence and respect.


3 cities declared holy cities


Recalling an important decision taken last year, the Chief Minister said that on the occasion of the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in November, the Punjab Government had declared three cities, where the Takht Sahib of the Sikhs are located, as holy cities. He said that the official notification granting the status of holy city to the Walled City Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo and Sri Anandpur Sahib has already been issued, thereby fulfilling the long standing demand of the Sangats across the world. He said that on the same lines, the Maharashtra government should also announce the status of holy city to Nanded Sahib, for which the Punjab government will make every possible effort.


Punjab Bhawan will be upgraded


The Chief Minister also announced the complete makeover of Punjab Bhawan located in Nanded Sahib. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab Bhawan constructed by the Punjab Government will be upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities for the convenience of the devotees. With this, the supply of Verka milk products to the devotees in Nanded will be made more streamlined. He stressed that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring every possible facility to the devotees coming to visit this holy site.


Punjabis played a brilliant role


Speaking on the contribution of Punjabis to the country, the Chief Minister said that Punjabis have played a brilliant role in the freedom struggle, in making the country self-reliant in food grain production and in protecting the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India. He said that whether it is about protecting the borders or making sacrifices, Punjabis are always at the forefront. It is a matter of pride that during any disaster, Punjabis often reach the spot to serve the needy even before organizations like the Red Cross.


Duty of government to respect young generations


The Chief Minister said that it is the duty of the Punjab Government to preserve the glorious legacy of the great Guru Sahibans for the younger generations. He said that we are following the footsteps of the great Guru Sahibans, who taught humanity to stand against tyranny, oppression and injustice and gave the message of ‘Sarbat da Bhala’.


Celebrated 350th Martyrdom Day


He further said that as part of this commitment, the Punjab Government recently celebrated the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji at Sri Anandpur Sahib. He said that our sole aim is to connect the younger generations with the life, philosophy of Guru Sahibans and their great sacrifices made for the protection of humanity.


Prayers for the well being of the people


During this, the Chief Minister prayed at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib for the progress, development and prosperity of the people of the state. He said Takht Sri Hazur Sahib is one of the five supreme shrines of Sikhism, which symbolizes spiritual, divine and moral values ​​for the community. He told that the other four Takhts of Sikhs are Sri Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar, Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo and Takht Sri Patna Sahib in Bihar.


Guru Gobind Singh Ji established secular values


Paying tribute to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Chief Minister said that the tenth Patshah Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji made incomparable contribution to the establishment of secular values, protection of human rights and religious freedom and sacrificed his entire family for these ideals. He said that Guru Sahib spent a significant part of his life in the holy land of Nanded Sahib.


Reiterated the government’s strong commitment


The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of good fortune for him to get the opportunity to pay respect and honor at this holy place. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he prays to God to give him the strength to serve the people of Punjab with more humility and dedication. After offering Ardas at Gurudwara Sahib, he reiterated his government’s firm commitment to serve the people and build a harmonious society without any discrimination of caste, colour, creed and religion.
