A customer drinking coffee from a Subway outlet in Malaysia was left unsettled after discovering what appeared to be cockroach legs in the cup, prompting the chain to issue an apology.
The incident was shared on social media platform Threads by user Fara Lee, who said a colleague had purchased the coffee from a Subway outlet at Mydin Mall Meru Raya in Ipoh.

“My work friend felt something in her throat and opened the cup cover to find cockroach legs. She had consumed half of the coffee,” as reported by AsiaOne.
Photos included in the post showed black squiggles – believed to be insect limbs – stuck to the sides of the cup and floating in the partially consumed drink. The post has since attracted more than 3,200 likes and over 420 comments.
Subway Malaysia later issued an apology in a comment on the post.
“We view this issue seriously and have taken more proactive steps by temporarily closing the outlet involved to carry out thorough inspections and cleaning,” the fast-food chain said.
In a separate comment, it added that it remains committed to maintaining hygiene standards and will take appropriate measures to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
On Tuesday, Subway Malaysia shared photos showing the outlet’s coffee machine and general premises undergoing cleaning.
“While we already have regular hygiene protocols in place, we went ahead with a full deep clean yesterday at the outlet as an added step of reassurance,” it wrote.
