Chakrata: Heavy snowfall in Uttarakhand’s Chakrata region left nearly 80 tourists stranded in Lokhandi last week. The Tyuni‑Chakrata‑Mussoorie‑Maletha National Highway was covered with almost three feet of snow, completely blocking the road and cutting off access to the area.

According to local hoteliers Likhilesh Chauhan and Rohan Rana, several tourists had arrived in Lokhandi on January 22 to enjoy the winter scenery. However, the sudden heavy snowfall on Friday trapped them in the area, as the 30‑kilometer stretch of highway between Kotikanasar and Chakrata became impassable.

The successful operation has been praised by locals and visitors alike, as it ensured the safety of stranded travelers despite harsh weather conditions.
