Latest update on Thalapathy Vijay's Jan Nayagan

The release of Thalapathy Vijay's film Jana Nayagan is likely to be delayed again following a fresh court order. On January 27, a division bench of the Madras High Court quashed an earlier order directing the Central Board of Film Certification to grant immediate certification to the film. The court ruled that the single judge should not have examined the content of the film at that stage. The matter has been sent back for fresh consideration. As a result, the CBFC certificate process has once again been stopped, creating uncertainty regarding the release of the film. Let us tell you that Jana Nayagan, which was expected to release during Pongal, had to be postponed earlier due to certification issues. After the new decision, the filmmakers will now have to approach the single judge bench again and wait for the new decision.

What is Jan Naygan vs CBFC case?

Jana Nayagan, which was being promoted as Vijay's last film before going into politics, was originally scheduled to release on 9 January. Just a day before the release, the makers announced that it was being postponed due to some circumstances beyond their control. In an official statement the team expressed regret over the delay. KVN Productions had on January 9 appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court's order, which had stayed the single judge bench's direction to immediately issue a UA certificate to the film. Due to this decision the scheduled release of the film was stopped. A few days later, on January 15, the Supreme Court refused to hear a petition filed by the filmmaker challenging the Division Bench's stay order and the delay in issuing the final censor certificate. The case was heard on 20 January and the verdict was announced on Tuesday, 27 January.
