Authorities are planning to introduce a pod-style hotel at Anand Vihar Interchange Station, one of the capital’s busiest transport nodes, to provide short-stay accommodation for passengers facing long layovers, late-night arrivals or early-morning departures.
The facility will be part of a larger commercial development within the Anand Vihar Namo Bharat interchange, which integrates regional rapid rail services with the Delhi Metro, long-distance railways and interstate bus terminals. The aim is to transform the station from a transit-only space into a more traveller-friendly hub.
Anand Vihar records some of the highest passenger footfall in Delhi, bringing together multiple transport systems in one location. With the addition of Namo Bharat services connecting Delhi with Ghaziabad and Meerut, the interchange has become even busier.
This connectivity often results in extended waiting times. Travellers arriving late at night or early in the morning frequently spend hours at the station, making short-term accommodation a practical need.
The proposed pod hotel is expected to have around 30 beds arranged in compact, private sleeping pods. Designed for short stays rather than full hotel accommodation, the pods will focus on basic comfort — a clean bed, privacy and a quiet place to rest.
Bookings are likely to be available on an hourly or short-duration basis, catering primarily to transit passengers rather than tourists.
The pod hotel is part of a broader commercial plan that includes food and beverage outlets, retail spaces and offices within the station complex. About 4,000 square metres across multiple levels has been earmarked for this development.
The project is being overseen by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation, which operates the Namo Bharat RRTS network. Like many transport agencies, NCRTC is seeking to boost non-ticket revenue while improving passenger amenities.
Delhi already has pod-style accommodation at some transit points, including facilities near major railway and metro stations. Globally, pod hotels are common at airports and large transport hubs where space is limited and demand for short stays is high.
If implemented as planned, the Anand Vihar pod hotel could offer a convenient, affordable resting option for thousands of daily travellers — signalling a shift towards more integrated, passenger-centric transport infrastructure in the capital.
