The duo put on a century partnership for the third wicket to salvage England’s shaky innings. Bethel were bowled out for 65, but Root fought his way through the side to complete his century.

Brian Lara’s Record History


With this century, Joe Root has overtaken West Indies great Brian Lara for most centuries in 50-over cricket. Brian Lara had 19 ODI centuries to his name, now Root has 20 centuries to his name. Root’s consistency in this series is commendable and he scored 62 runs in the first match and 75 runs in the second match.

Along with the century, Joe Root also completed his 7,500 runs in ODI cricket. In doing so, he has surpassed two of India’s greatest captains. He is the fourth fastest batsman in the world to reach the 7,500-run mark.
