Ajit Pawar Death News: Maharashtra politics suffered an irreparable loss on Wednesday morning (January 28, 2026) when the chartered plane of Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar crashed while landing at Baramati Airport. DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has confirmed in an official statement that all 6 people on board the plane died—no one survived.

The accident occurred around 8:45-8:48 am, when the Learjet 45 (VT-SSK) was heading from Mumbai to Baramati. Ajit Pawar was going to attend four public meetings and meetings for the Zilla Parishad election campaign. The plane went out of control at the runway threshold and fell into a field, broke apart, caught fire and was completely burnt. DGCA clarified that “Everyone including Ajit Pawar, his 1 PSO (Security Officer), 1 attendant and 2 crew members (Pilot + First Officer) died. As per initial information, there are no survivors.”

Earlier some reports had said that Ajit Pawar was seriously injured, but soon DGCA confirmed his death. The scenes of debris scattered at the scene, smoke and fire are extremely frightening. Local people and rescue teams recovered 4-5 bodies, all were declared dead.

Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar, sister Supriya Sule and son Parth Pawar immediately left for Baramati from Delhi. The family members expressed condolences and said that the last rites would be held in Baramati.

Ajit Pawar (66) was known as ‘Dada’ of Baramati – he was elected MLA from the place several times and had deep political roots. His death has created great turmoil in NCP, Mahayuti government and Maharashtra politics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders spoke to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and expressed condolences.
