CBI: Indian and Malaysian law enforcement agencies on Tuesday completed a coordinated cross-border operation that resulted in the deportation of three wanted individuals from India to Malaysia. The process was carried out through established international police cooperation channels, highlighting continued collaboration between the two countries in addressing organised crime.
The Central Bureau of Investigation, working closely with Malaysia’s National Central Bureau in Kuala Lumpur, confirmed that the deportation was executed using formal INTERPOL mechanisms. According to officials, the individuals were returned to Malaysian custody after procedural clearances were completed by authorities in both countries. The operation followed standard international protocols designed to ensure lawful transfer and accountability.
The three individuals, identified as Sridharan Subramaniam, Pratifkumar Selvaraj, and Navindren Raj Cumarason, were reportedly wanted by Malaysian law enforcement agencies in connection with organised criminal activities. Authorities stated that the alleged offences involved plans to commit serious crimes with the intent of gaining material benefits, influence, or power. Further legal proceedings are expected to take place in Malaysia under applicable laws.
Indian officials noted that the suspects were intercepted upon arrival at Mumbai International Airport after travelling from the United Kingdom. Immigration authorities denied them entry into India following routine checks. Subsequent to this decision, Malaysia’s National Central Bureau in Kuala Lumpur formally approached the National Central Bureau in New Delhi, requesting assistance to ensure the suspects’ return to Malaysia for further investigation and prosecution.
Following the request, an escort team from the Royal Malaysia Police arrived in Mumbai on January 25 to oversee the transfer. Indian agencies, including the CBI and immigration authorities, provided logistical and procedural support. Officials described the operation as smooth and well-coordinated, with all actions taken in compliance with international legal standards and mutual cooperation agreements.
The CBI stated that the successful deportation reflects the strength of bilateral cooperation between India and Malaysia in combating transnational crime. Officials emphasized the importance of INTERPOL frameworks in ensuring that individuals facing serious criminal charges cannot evade justice by crossing international borders. Such coordination, they noted, plays a critical role in maintaining regional and global security.
In a separate development, the CBI also announced that several of its officers were honoured on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day. A total of 31 officers received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, recognising their contributions to law enforcement and public service.
Among those receiving the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service were Chandrasekar Venupillai, Head of Zone for the Delhi Zone; Amit Srivastava, Superintendent of Police (Administration); Mukesh Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police; Pramod Kumar Yati, Sub Inspector; Chaman Lal, Assistant Sub Inspector; and Ramu Golla, Head Constable. Officials said the awards acknowledge sustained dedication, professionalism, and exemplary service within the organisation.
