The issue of WhatsApp being a trap for hackers is not new. It has been heard earlier that users are being fooled with all the tempting offers like exclusive offers, instant cashback. Many times, just by clicking on a picture, the accident happened. But do you know, this time hackers target students! They are being trapped by the Centre’s ‘One Country One Student’ ID.

How leaves are traps

It is learned that students are receiving a WhatsApp message. It says ‘Your APAAR ID :’… and at the end is a 12 digit number. Then it says, ‘The ID has been successfully generated. and is now available in the Issued Documents section of your DigiLock account.’ Also mentioned is ‘One Nation One Student ID’. It is also requested to avail this facility before submitting EKYC using Aadhaar. Everyone misunderstands that this message is coming from a ‘verified’ government account. As a result, it is not understood that it is a ‘fraud’. Many are claiming that they have received this message. But they never applied for APAAR ID. And did not get any such message from the school either.

Cyber security experts warn that you must be careful when receiving such messages. It should be remembered that general government notifications or messages come only through government channels. It never comes as a private WhatsApp message. So if you send such messages asking for KYC or Aadhaar details or OTP, don’t respond at all. Such messages are actually ‘traps’! So be careful.

What to do to deal with the ‘hacker trap’?

Experts say, not only Paduas, but also their parents should be careful. Never share any kind of OTP, Aadhaar number or bank details – such sensitive information. And do not share such information from any other type of account. It should be remembered that hackers are laying various traps on Facebook and WhatsApp. So think before sharing any kind of information. A little mistake can be disastrous!
