Yogi Cabinet extended the period of digitization of registered documents of 2002-2017 by 6 months. 99% indexing and 98% scanning has been completed. The project will be completed without additional budget, which will ensure safe records and prevent fraud.

Lucknow. The Yogi government has taken an important decision regarding the digitization of old documents registered in sub-registrar offices in Uttar Pradesh. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approval has been given to extend the duration of the scanning and indexing project of deeds registered from 2002 to 2017 by 6 months. The project is in its final stages and no additional budget is said to be required for its completion.

Project cost and budget status

This scheme was approved in the year 2022 at a cost of Rs 95 crore. Later, due to delay in work due to practical reasons, its duration was extended to July 2024 and the total cost was increased to Rs 123.62 crore. Rs 109.05 crore has been spent on this project by the end of the financial year 2024-25. The remaining work will be completed in the current budget only.

More than 99% indexing and 98% scanning complete

Under this project at the state level, 99.11 percent of indexing and 98.37 percent of scanning work has been completed. Work has been completely finished in most of the districts. At present, some work is left in Etah, Varanasi, Moradabad, Mainpuri, Lucknow, Aligarh, Hathras, Agra, Saharanpur and Prayagraj, which will be completed in the next six months.

Quality ensured by two level checks

To maintain the quality of digitization, every document is being verified in two stages. At the first level, the investigation is being conducted by the Assistant Inspector General of Registration. At the second level, re-examination is being done by the Deputy Inspector General of Registration of Division and Circle. This process will continue until 100 percent verification is completed.

Prevention of fraud and protection of records

Digitization of old documents will effectively stop forgery and fraud. Records related to land and property will be safely and permanently preserved. This will make availability of documents easier for the common people and will increase administrative transparency.
