In the match between Mumbai and Delhi, players were seen at discomfort due to his spot based polution on day 1 of the Ranji Trophy match on January 29. Notably, Mumbai was hosting Delhi for their home matches at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC. And there theree players were seen fielding wearing mask in the last hours of the day.


 


On Thursday, the players complained about excessive dust and pollution on the field. This was mainly due to a nearby construction site. And this caused problems among the players. It even disrupted play for some time.


 


In the last session, Mumbai all-rounder Himanshu Singh and the batter Sarfaraz Khan and his brother Musheer Khan were seen fielding wearing masks. The players fielded for almost thirty minutes wearing the mask.

Mumbai management complains to MCA

 


The Times of India later reported that the Mumbai team management wrote to the Mumbai Cricket Association on the pollution issue. A source close to MCA reported to the TOI that players and support staff who sat outside the stadium even wore masks. TOI quoted the source saying,


 


Mumbai’s team management has written to the Mumbai Cricket Association about the problem of pollution due to the under-construction building here, which has led to a lot of dust and pollution on the ground."


 


It added,


 



“We have requested the MCA to take it up with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. Players and members of support staff sitting just outside the dressing room, too, were forced to wear masks."



 


Mumbai bowler Mohit Avasthi, who ended the day with 5 wickets in his pocket at the cost of 62 runs, confirmed the players wore masks. Avasthi said,


 



“The construction work was going on (nearby), because of which people were feeling the pollution. That’s why we were wearing masks."

Delhi tightened their grip on Day 1 of the four-day Ranji Trophy clash after being bowled out for 221 in 76.4 overs, before Mumbai reached 13/1 at stumps. Sanat Sangwan anchored the innings with a patient 118 off 218 balls, contributing over 53% of Delhi’s total, while Pranav Rajvanshi added 39. Mumbai’s attack was led by Mohit Avasthi (5/62) and Shams Mulani (2/45). In reply, Mumbai lost Akash Anand early, ending the day trailing by 208 runs.
