Ila Arun has put an important condition while respecting Deepika’s opinion. He said that 8-hour shift can be successful only when the entire system becomes ‘professional’. Ila believes that time is often wasted in the Indian film industry. If the cast and crew arrive on time and do not waste time in unnecessary talk, it is possible to complete the work in 8 hours. “If we become completely professional, we can do great work in less time, let alone 8 hours. But here, hours are often spent in waiting and confusion.”
Talking about her working style, Deepika had said that she gives priority to her mental peace and physical health. Deepika argues that working for 12-14 hours increases fatigue and reduces creativity. This stand of Deepika is being seen as the beginning of a new change in the industry, where big stars now want to work on their own terms.
Ila Arun emphasized that it may be difficult to enforce the 8-hour rule for small-budget films or TV shows. The budget of films is decided according to the daily shooting. If the shifts are shorter, the shooting days will increase and so will the expenses. Ila quipped that a lot of time is spent on gossiping and preparation on the sets. He suggested that we should focus on ‘time management’ like Hollywood.
Ila Arun made it clear that she is not against Deepika, but she wants the work culture of the industry to change. He said that only if the actors are punctual and the production team comes fully prepared, the dream of 8-hour shift can become a reality.
