Blanket washing care tips: As soon as winter ends, the first thing to do is to wash and store thick blankets and quilts. But if the blanket is washed incorrectly, it may lose softness, discolor or even start to smell. Many times the blanket also shrinks, due to which it becomes of no use in the next winter. Therefore, it is very important to keep some important things in mind while washing the blanket, so that it remains like new for a long time.

1. Don't forget to read the label before washing your blanket

• Not every blanket is the same—some are wool, some fleece or microfiber.

Be sure to read the wash care label on the blanket. If it says “Hand Wash Only” or “Dry Clean”, machine washing can cause serious damage. Ignoring the label can damage the blanket fabric and reduce its lifespan.

2. The biggest mistake is to add too much detergent.

• More foam = more cleaning, this thinking is wrong.

Detergent gets trapped in the blanket, which can cause it to become hard and start to smell. Always use mild liquid detergent or baby detergent and limit the quantity. If you want, you can add a little white vinegar in the last rinse, this removes the detergent completely.

3. Avoid hot water and fast spin mode

• Hot water weakens the blanket fibers, especially wool blankets.
• Always use cold or lukewarm water only.
• Fast spin mode can spoil the shape of the blanket, so choose Gentle or Delicate mode in the washing machine.

4. The method of drying in the sun is also very important

• Hanging the blanket in direct sunlight can cause the color to fade and the fabric to become stiff.
• Dry the blanket by spreading it in the shade or in mild sunlight.
• Store only after it dries completely, otherwise fungus and bad smell may occur due to moisture.
