The settlement gained recognition through celebrated author and playwright J. B. Priestley, who expressed his deep affection for Hubberholme. The building transformed into The Georgepubin 1754, though historical records suggest it previously served as a vicarage for the church located opposite.

Due to continued church ownership, a custom emerged of placing a lit candle at the bar to indicate whether the establishment was open for business.

This charming practice has endured at this wayfarer's haven, with an illuminated candle still positioned on the bar today.

The publicans remain committed to preserving local customs and safeguarding the pub's authentic British character, evident in the exposed timber beams and crackling fireplaces.

One guest detailed their visit on TripAdvisor, saying: "What a lovely venue. A very traditional-style pub with a lovely warm fire. The place is so cosy.

"I had a little corner table with a bench set up and lots of comfortable cushions. There is an outdoor area for warmer seasons as well, so plenty of room."

Another reviewer admitted the establishment was "almost too good to share" and felt hesitant about posting a glowing review, hoping to preserve this hidden treasure. They described the evening meals as "exceptional" and their visit as "immensely enjoyable".
