The month of February is about to start and if you have any important work to the bank, then this news is very important for you. Being the shortest month of the year, there are fewer holidays in February compared to other months, but still in many states banks are going to remain closed due to festivals and special days. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the list of holidays for February 2026, which shows when banks will be open and closed in your city.
According to RBI rules, all banks across the country remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays of every month. In February 2026, there will be bank holidays on 14 February (second Saturday) and 28 February (fourth Saturday). Apart from this, Sunday is falling on 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd of the month. However, it is worth noting that February 15 is a Sunday, but due to local festivals in some states, the timing of the holiday may be slightly different. Overall, banks will not function in different parts of the country including weekly holidays.
Big occasions like Losar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti and State Foundation Day are coming in the month of February. Banks will remain closed in Sikkim on February 18 on the occasion of ‘Losar’ (Tibetan New Year). It is a major cultural festival of Sikkim which is celebrated with great pomp by the people there. After this, there will be a holiday in banks on 19th February in entire Maharashtra on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. The birth anniversary of the founder of the Maratha Empire is a major public holiday in Maharashtra.
At the same time, 20th February is special for the north-eastern states of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. On this day both these states celebrate their ‘State Foundation Day’. On this date in the year 1987, these Union Territories got the status of full state, hence banks will remain closed here on 20th February.
Even though bank branches remain closed, you do not need to panic. Even during bank closure, you can take the help of digital means for your financial needs. Services like Internet Banking, SMS Banking and WhatsApp Banking are operational 24/7. You can check your account balance, transfer money, pay bills and complete mobile recharge etc. all while sitting at home. Apart from this, facilities like withdrawing cash from ATM and ordering check book will also continue as before.
