Lucknow. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is continuously making new achievements in the direction of clean energy and green development. With the successful and effective implementation of the Central Government's flagship PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, the state has become one of the leading solar energy states of the country. According to the data of the national portal, more than 58.36 lakh applications have been received so far from across the country, out of which more than 10.94 lakh applications have been filed from Uttar Pradesh alone. This shows the active participation of the citizens of the state and increasing confidence in solar energy.
Due to the visionary policies of the Yogi government and the coordinated efforts of UPNEDA and power distribution companies, 3,57,879 rooftop solar systems have been installed in the state so far. With this, the total installed solar capacity of Uttar Pradesh has increased to 1,227.05 MW. Central subsidy of ₹2,440.62 crore and state subsidy of about ₹600 crore has so far been provided to consumers under the scheme.
Common consumers are getting direct benefits from the rooftop solar systems installed under PM Surya Ghar Yojana. There has been a reduction of 60 to 90 percent in electricity bills. Consumers are saving an average of ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 per month. Along with this, facilities like clean electricity at low cost for 25 years, sending excess electricity to the grid through net metering are also being available.
More than 50 lakh units of solar energy is being produced every day in the state. This has reduced the pressure of peak demand on power distribution companies and made the energy supply system more stable and stronger than before. This initiative is laying a solid foundation towards making Uttar Pradesh energy self-reliant.
Through PM Surya Ghar Yojana, 13 to 15 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions are being reduced every year in Uttar Pradesh. Due to reduction in dependence on coal based electricity, a significant reduction in air pollution and greenhouse gases is being recorded. This step is making a significant contribution in achieving India's net-zero target by 2070.
Yogi government is working towards connecting PM Surya Ghar Yojana with Unified Energy Interface (UEI) based digital energy framework in future. Under this, solar generation, smart metering, net metering, carbon data and payment systems will be linked to banking and financial systems. This will promote EV charging, green finance, carbon credit tracking and energy based financial products. Besides, in the context of EU-India FTA and CBAM, this initiative will also strengthen the global competitiveness of the MSMEs and exporters of the state.
