Whilst travel is never entirely without risk, there are several holiday destinations that prove safer than others. According to research by Reassured, Salzburg in Austria stands as Europe's most secure city.
Salzburg boasts a minimal crime rate and, according to Numbeo, very few residents express concern about being attacked or experiencing vandalism in the city. Nearly 90 per cent of people reported feeling secure walking alone after dark. It's hardly surprising that Reassured also ranked it amongst the finest places to raise a family. Recognised as Mozart's birthplace, Salzburg remains a favoured tourist destination.
Its Old Town or Altstadt can be easily explored on foot, with many of the city's premier attractions situated within a brief stroll of one another.
A visitor 'Robert P' commented on Tripadvisor: "Lovely area to walk around, small enough not to tire the feet. Salzburg is almost the perfect tourist town, history and scenery combined."
Zug in Switzerland and Leiden in the Netherlands followed as the subsequent safest cities on the ranking, each maintaining minimal crime rates.
Switzerland dominated the listing, with numerous other cities from the country also featuring in the safety rankings.
All of these cities were assessed as considerably safer than multiple major UK cities, including London and Leeds.
